I just had a party at my home last night. It was a going away party for my friend bj quintana who is moving to Taos and also a Gallery Opening for my home photography gallery. bj had helped me to frame and hang a dozen of my images in the large downstairs room I have which I set up with recessed lighting on three of the walls to light my artwork.
I’m writing about it here because bj had suggested that I write something up about the show so people could read about it. All of the images I displayed were somehow related to the sea/shore/sand. As I wrote that, I noticed that I was really writing about discovering the Truth. So, I paste here the text of that writing plus I’m adding a picture of the image that I sold at the party. Yea!
I’ve been living in this beautiful area for a few years now and feel very blessed to live so close to the shore with it’s migrating birds and whales, and seal pups being born just down the path. You’ll see in these images an exploration of this place where the surf meets the shore, the place where life began to where our lives here now continue.
The ocean has always drawn me to it. My moving here was in large part a result of honoring a voice within me that made itself heard as I was packing my ‘72 Volvo wagon for a trip to the desert a little over 10 years ago. That voice which arose from my belly said in a clear and simple way:
“no, I want to go to the ocean”
and that voice resulted in the purchase of this land and this life that is now unfolding. The images here are my way of exploring the emotional quality of my soul’s connection to this place. This project does not feel finished yet, but thus far I trust that the emotional quality that you might find in these images is reflective of an inner tenor that is making its way through to the surface to be witnessed.
All of us have been drawn to or remain in this magical place for our own reasons. Noticing which images on display here resonate with you may help to bring you to a better understanding for yourself. Resonance is actually an interesting conception here. Why does something resonate with us? Why are we drawn to certain people in our lives, certain places, certain spiritual paths? I believe it is the voice of our souls speaking to us, saying “this feels right,” or “there’s something happening here worth paying attention to.” These images are a result of honoring that resonance, attending to that call, letting the questions be, and allowing the truth to gradually reveal itself.
